We Are York, South Carolina's Premiere Christian School
Blessed Hope Baptist Church began in a store front building on Charlotte Street in January of 1969. After several years in that building, members were able to purchase the land where the church is presently located.
Shortly thereafter, the church began to see the need for Christian education in our area, and as a result, Blessed Hope Baptist School was founded in August of 1973. In the first year of our school, BHBS offered only kindergarten and first grade classes.
At the great sacrifice of our church members, a new church building was constructed across the parking lot and an additional building was built for the school. The former church building was renovated and it became a permanent part of our educational system. Several years later, a gymnasium was constructed for sports activities and four additional classrooms were added. Since then BHBS has built five more classrooms adjacent to the gym and have remodeled the oldest building on campus to include more classrooms. Our campus currently includes Blessed Hope Baptist Church, Blessed Hope Baptist School and Child Development Center, and Hope Tract Ministry.
Currently, twenty rooms are available for classrooms in our three separate school buildings and over 100 children pass through our halls each day that school is in session.

providing quality education from a Biblical perspective in an environment of spiritual growth.
For more than forty years, Blessed Hope Christian Academy has offered a strong Christian education to the students of York County. We use the ABEKA curriculum in the majority of our classes (although some high school classes use some Bob Jones materials). We offer one class per grade (no combined elementary classes) and keep our class sizes relatively small.
Each year, our students take the Stanford and Olsat achievement tests through the American Association of Christian Schools. These tests compare our students to students across the nation (both public and private) and we generally average approximately two years above the national average. Our high school students also post college entrance scores (SAT & ACT) that exceed the national average.
The BHCA college preparatory diploma exceeds the requirements for a college preparatory diploma in the state of South Carolina. Our core curriculum includes credits in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Algebra I and II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Spanish I and II, Civics, Economics, World and U.S. History, Microsoft Applications, and college-level English courses. Our diploma is accepted at every major university throughout the country.
In 2010 four seniors graduated from BHCA. All four of our graduates are attending colleges this fall (Clemson, Charleston Southern and York Tech) . BHBS also currently has graduates enrolled at USC in Columbia, Clemson University, American University in Washington D.C., The Citadel, Southern Wesleyan, Liberty University, North Greenville, Pensacola Christian College, as well as numerous students at Winthrop University in Rock Hill. Approximately 90% of our graduates go on to some type of higher education.
This past year (2011-2012), both our varsity boys and girls volleyball teams won the State Championship! In basketball, our girls varsity team won third in the state while our boys team placed second.

The BHCA “Flames” are members of the South Carolina Association of Christian Schools. This association represents over 80 Christian schools in our state and many of these schools participate in the state athletic association. Our school currently participates in varsity boys and varsity girls volleyball and varsity boys, varsity girls, and junior varsity boys basketball.
Also, every two years in December, our high school students travel to Washington, D.C. for a Christmas tour of our nation’s capital. On these trips we often meet with our senators or congressman, and on several occasions, we had the privilege of hearing the President speak. Students participating on our trips must meet certain academic, discipline, and fundraising requirements.
BHCA is a member of the South Carolina Association of Christian schools and our students participate in the state Fine Arts competitions. We offer chorus classes to high school, junior high, and elementary students. Each spring, our high school drama class performs a play at the McElvey Center in downtown York. Field trips, school carnivals, and field days are also available for our elementary students. Also, in February, we crown our homecoming queen and the year concludes with our formal “Touch of Class” banquet. It is our goal to provide many lasting and exciting memories for our students – memories which will last a lifetime!
